Handling drill from New Zealand by David Clarke

A coaching clip featuring top skills coach from New Zealand Dave Ellis. The feature does suggest old school “drill”, but certain plenty of merit because it is easy to set up and involves lots of rugby related movement. Put in defenders (who could be running a similar pattern), to add to the pressure.

Ref: adding defenders… a second group could be mirroring the action but with a view to being defenders as they reach the “passing cone” … building that as 1 defender, then two. i see the value of this drill not for what it is as shown alone but the developments that can be brought to it.

It also has value as a conditioning drill – lots of constant running without “doing fitness” – add some tackles and you now add upper body stamina to pure aerobic conditioning.
